Getting Started with Katalist

When you first log into Katalist, you’re greeted by a clean and user-friendly dashboard. You can create a project from scratch, use Katalist’s script assistant to draft your script, or import files like Final Draft, CSV, PDF, Word, or TXT files.

Katalist offers multiple style options: you can choose between Sketch, Cinematic, Oil Painting, Comic Book, Cartoon, Pixel Art, Video Game, Dark Graphic Novel, Woodblock Print, Animation, or Create Your Style. I love Pixel Art style! With Create Your Style, users can upload 3 – 5 images that will be used for style reference.

Next, you need to set your aspect ratio. Katalist allows you to choose from various ratios, such as 16:9, 1:1, and 9:16. Then, approve or edit your cast.

Using the Script Assistant

Katalist’s script assistant is a handy feature for those who prefer guidance. Simply type in the basic idea for your story. For example, let’s say we want to create a story about “living in New York and selling fruit.” Just hit the pink button, and voilà—a generated script is crafted for you!

You can edit any part of the script anytime, allowing for a flexible writing process. Once you’re satisfied, confirm the script, and Katalist will start setting up the visuals for each scene.

Editing Scenes and Characters

Katalist does a great job generating scenes based on your script. For instance, it might create a character named Carlos and throw in another character, Camila. You can edit any of the scenes by clicking on them. Want to change the camera angle? No problem! With just a few clicks, you can switch it from a top-down shot to a straight-on view.

Katalist allows you to change characters easily. For example, you can seamlessly swap Carlos out for another character, like Steve. You can also adjust the creative direction of the scene, such as changing the lighting from natural to dark city light.

Scene Generation and Limitations

While Katalist excels at generating scenes quickly, it does have some limitations. Currently, adding more than one character per scene can cause some issues. Sometimes, the AI gets a little wonky and goes off the rails. This can be frustrating, but it’s expected when using AI. The development team is aware of this issue and is working on a solution, but it’s something to keep in mind.

Another area for improvement is the ability to upload your artwork for background images, which would be a valuable feature for many creatives.
